YBO Woo Product Slider
Overview
YBO Woo Product Slider is a lightweight WooCommerce plugin developed by YBO Digital to create responsive product carousels for pages, posts, Divi layouts and WordPress templates.
The plugin provides a focused alternative to a larger commercial slider stack while preserving the slider records and shortcodes created by the original Woo Product Slider plugin. Existing sliders can therefore continue to operate without rebuilding every page on which a shortcode has already been placed.
Administrators can create sliders from WooCommerce product groups such as latest products, sale products, featured products, best sellers, top-rated products, categories, tags or individually selected products. Each slider has independent display, styling, product-label and advanced query settings.
The plugin is managed through the shared YBO Apps administration area and is designed to remain simple, predictable and compatible with established WooCommerce and Divi websites.
Why This Plugin Exists
Preserve Existing Product Sliders
Established websites may already contain product-slider shortcodes across landing pages, category pages, blog posts, Divi layouts and reusable templates.
Replacing the original slider plugin without maintaining shortcode and data compatibility could leave blank sections throughout the website or require every slider to be rebuilt manually.
YBO Woo Product Slider retains the existing slider post type and the canonical shortcode:
[woo_product_slider id=”123″]
The legacy shortcode alias is also retained where it is already in use.
Remove Unnecessary Commercial Plugin Overhead
The original slider plugin included licensing, update and administration components that were not required for the YBO-managed implementation.
The YBO plugin replaces that stack with a smaller internal renderer and a focused administration interface containing only the functionality required by the websites on which it is used.
Provide Consistent YBO Administration
All YBO-developed tools are intended to be available from one shared WordPress administration area rather than creating multiple unrelated top-level menu items.
YBO Woo Product Slider is available from:
YBO Apps → Slider Dashboard
The dashboard provides direct access to slider management, system health, product-label integration, legacy-data migration, diagnostics and help.
Prevent Duplicate Product Labels
The slider previously had the potential to display a native sale badge alongside a label created by Advanced Woo Labels.
YBO Woo Product Slider now treats Advanced Woo Labels as the exclusive product-label authority. The slider does not create its own sale, stock, new-product or promotional badges.
This prevents two different label systems from competing inside the same product card.
How The Plugin Works
Step 1 – Create or Open a Slider
Administrators open the Slider Dashboard and select either Add slider or Manage sliders.
Each slider is stored as a private WordPress administration record. It is not a publicly browsable post and does not create an archive or standalone frontend URL.
Step 2 – Select the Product Source
The administrator chooses which WooCommerce products should populate the slider.
Available sources include:
- Latest products
- Sale products
- Featured products
- Best-selling products
- Top-rated products
- Products from selected categories
- Products from selected tags
- Individually selected products
- Products entered by SKU for legacy compatibility
Category, tag and product selectors use the current WooCommerce catalogue. Empty filtered sources do not silently fall back to unrelated products.
Step 3 – Configure the Layout
Each slider can be configured independently for:
- Total number of products
- Desktop columns
- Tablet columns
- Mobile columns
- Slider title visibility
- Product price visibility
- Product button visibility
- Navigation-arrow visibility
- Optional More button and destination
- Autoplay and autoplay interval
Autoplay pauses when the slider is hovered, receives keyboard focus or the visitor has requested reduced motion in their device preferences.
Step 4 – Configure Product Labels
Where Advanced Woo Labels is active, the slider requests the published labels configured in that plugin.
Advanced Woo Labels remains responsible for:
- Label text
- Display conditions
- Product rules
- Position
- Styling
- Priority
- Label groups
The YBO slider controls only whether labels may be displayed in a particular slider.
Administrators can:
- Disable all Advanced Woo Labels output for one slider
- Suppress selected labels in one slider
- Leave all published labels enabled
Only excluded label IDs are stored. When a new label is published in Advanced Woo Labels, it is discovered dynamically and enabled automatically unless an administrator later excludes it from a particular slider.
Step 5 – Configure Styling and Product Behaviour
The Styling section provides controls for:
- Product button wording
- Button background colour
- Button text colour
- Price colour
- Navigation-arrow background colour
- Navigation-arrow icon colour
The Advanced section provides controls for:
- Excluding out-of-stock products
- Product ordering
- Ascending or descending direction
- WooCommerce product type
- Legacy layout compatibility key
- Legacy migration status
Best-selling and top-rated sliders retain their own WooCommerce ranking order rather than being overwritten by a general sort selection.
Step 6 – Publish and Place the Slider
Once published, WordPress generates the slider shortcode using its record ID.
For example:
[woo_product_slider id=”123″]
The shortcode can be placed in:
- A WordPress page or post
- A Divi Code module
- A Divi Text module that supports shortcodes
- A theme template
- A widget or reusable layout
- Any compatible shortcode location
The shortcode remains unchanged after migration from the original plugin.
Step 7 – Render the WooCommerce Products
On the frontend, the plugin:
- Confirms that the slider exists and may be displayed.
- Resolves the saved YBO settings.
- Builds a controlled WooCommerce product query.
- Retrieves the matching products.
- Restores the correct global product and post context for each product card.
- Requests Advanced Woo Labels at the supported positions where enabled.
- Outputs the responsive slider markup and controls.
Draft and private sliders are not rendered publicly. They can be previewed only by authorised administrators.
Product Sources
Latest Products
Displays recently published WooCommerce products according to the configured limit and order.
Sale Products
Displays products currently recognised by WooCommerce as being on sale. Any sale badge must be configured in Advanced Woo Labels; the slider does not generate a separate badge.
Featured Products
Displays products marked as featured in WooCommerce.
Best-Selling Products
Uses WooCommerce sales data to prioritise products with the highest recorded sales.
Top-Rated Products
Uses WooCommerce rating data to prioritise the highest-rated products.
Categories and Tags
Administrators can select one or more WooCommerce product categories or product tags. The slider displays products matching the chosen taxonomy terms.
Specific Products
A WooCommerce product search field allows administrators to choose individual products and variations.
SKU Source
Comma-separated SKU selection is retained primarily for compatibility with sliders created by the original plugin. New sliders should generally use the searchable Specific Products selector where practical.
Advanced Woo Labels Integration
Advanced Woo Labels is optional for the slider itself, but it is the only supported source of product badges.
When Advanced Woo Labels is not active:
- The product slider continues to operate.
- Products, prices and buttons continue to display normally.
- No sale or promotional labels are generated by the slider.
When Advanced Woo Labels is active:
- Published labels are discovered automatically.
- Supported label positions are requested once per product.
- Automatic duplicate image-filter injection is suppressed inside the slider.
- Per-slider exclusions are applied without copying or recreating the label rules.
- New published labels are enabled automatically.
The dashboard reports the detected Advanced Woo Labels version and warns when it is earlier than the supported security baseline of version 2.38.
Legacy Slider Migration
YBO Woo Product Slider was designed to preserve sliders created by the original Woo Product Slider plugin.
The migration process is deliberately separate from ordinary slider editing.
Migration and Verification
The Legacy Data centre can:
- Identify sliders still using original metadata.
- Copy every runtime-relevant value into native YBO settings.
- Create a versioned backup of the original metadata.
- Compare the effective configuration before and after migration.
- Mark the slider as verified only when the configurations match.
Migration does not delete the original data.
Optional Legacy Cleanup
Legacy metadata can be removed only after:
- Native YBO settings have been created
- The migrated configuration has been verified
- A backup matching the current original metadata exists
- The original slider plugin is inactive
- An administrator deliberately confirms cleanup
Cleanup removes only the original shortcode and layout metadata used by the former plugin. It does not remove the slider, the native YBO settings or the retained backup.
Backup and Restoration
Administrators can export individual or combined JSON backups before cleanup.
Retained backups can also restore the original metadata, including whether each original metadata key existed before migration.
The migration and cleanup workflow is never triggered automatically during activation, updates or ordinary slider saves.
Dashboard and Diagnostics
The Slider Dashboard includes the following sections:
Overview
Displays slider counts, publication status, recent sliders, WooCommerce connection status, Advanced Woo Labels status and general system health.
Product Labels
Displays the Advanced Woo Labels connection, detected version, published label register and the number of sliders suppressing each label.
Legacy Data
Provides migration status, verification, backups, export, cleanup and restoration controls.
Diagnostics
Reports relevant WordPress, WooCommerce, Divi, shortcode, post-type and integration information without exposing sensitive configuration publicly.
Help
Provides operating guidance, compatibility notes, developer filters and a direct link to the maintained YBO Digital project documentation.
User Permissions
By default, slider administration requires the WordPress manage_options capability and is therefore limited to administrators.
The capability can be changed through the plugin’s management-capability filter where a site requires a different role structure.
The shared YBO Apps parent menu uses its own capability filter so access to the YBO Apps overview and access to individual YBO plugins can remain independently controlled.
Synchronisation Methods
Compatibility and Safety
YBO Woo Product Slider is designed to:
• Use WooCommerce product APIs rather than direct product-table queries
• Preserve existing slider IDs and shortcodes
• Prevent public rendering of unpublished sliders
• Avoid unrelated product fallbacks when a filtered source is empty
• Escape frontend output and sanitise administration settings
• Protect saves and migration actions with capability and nonce checks
• Restore global post and product context after product rendering
• Avoid duplicate Advanced Woo Labels output
• Support WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage declarations
• Preserve Divi placement and Visual Builder compatibility
• Respect keyboard focus and reduced-motion preferences
The original Woo Product Slider plugin should remain disabled because it registers the same slider post type, shortcode and frontend assets.
Recommended Use
Before replacing the original slider plugin on a production website:
1. Create a verified backup of the WordPress database.
2. Install the YBO plugin on staging.
3. Keep the original slider plugin disabled.
4. Review the Slider Dashboard diagnostics.
5. Confirm that existing slider shortcodes render correctly.
6. Check desktop, tablet and mobile layouts.
7. Verify Advanced Woo Labels output and confirm that no duplicate labels remain.
8. Run the controlled legacy migration.
9. Export the legacy metadata backups.
10. Complete legacy cleanup only after frontend verification.
Requirements
The plugin requires:
- WordPress 6.5 or later
- PHP 7.4 or later
- WooCommerce 7.0 or later
Optional supported integrations include:
- Advanced Woo Labels 2.38 or later for product labels
- Divi Theme or Divi Builder for shortcode placement in Divi layouts
